Dear Parents,

I can't believe the beginning of the new school year is upon us!  I hope you had as a great of a summer as I had with my family.

I will begin in the Fall my 9th year of teaching Art at St. Timothy! This year in addition to teaching at St. Timothy two days a week, I will also be teaching at St. Agatha the other three days of the week.  I look forward to a great year with your children and hope it’s an exciting year for everyone! I wanted you to be aware of a few items that will be happening in my classroom next year and wanted to clarify a few items for the Fall.

ART HELPERS NEEDED: I am always looking for wonderful Parents or Grandparents as well as Aunts, to help us out in the Art Room. This involves once to twice a month in the classroom, for 45 minutes, with grades K-3.   I love having extra adult hands to pass out items, help the children and help with clean-up also. You are required to have been fingerprinted AND you have to have taken the “Protecting God’s Children” class in order to volunteer in the class.  Also, it is not necessary that you work in your child’s class, if another class fits your schedule; you are welcome to help in that class.  I also always need help framing and hanging art work and this is behind the scenes stuff you can do and not be in the classroom.  If this is something you'd like to help me with, I would love the help.  I teach on Mondays and Thursdays, so please email me to let me know if you'd like to help and I'll let you know my schedule as well.

ART PORTFOLIOS:  Throughout the school year each class makes on average of 4-9 projects. It has been a practice of mine to keep most of the Art Work of the students throughout the year and then return all artwork in May in a Portfolio. Usually the only exceptions are clay items (that won’t be displayed in the Art Show (see below) and any larger 2-D items not displayed in the Art Show). These items are usually sent home after they are made and displayed. I just wanted you to be aware that you will see little art coming home before May, but you are welcome to come see me and view your students’ work anytime I’m at school.

“EVENING WITH THE ARTS” – Next years “Evening with the Arts” event, for 2010,  will be held on Tuesday, March 29th ,  beginning at 7 pm. The 6th, 7th and 8th Grades will have performances this evening (more details to come later) and during the same time, there is an Art Show featuring a work of art on display by EACH student in the school PLUS the annual art fundraiser consisting of a Silent Auction of 8th Grade Ceramic Plates and  this year we will feature a class project that will be  Silent Auctioned off this evening.  Grades Kindergarten - 7th grade will have a project to be auctioned.

***Please note ALL PARENTS OF 8th Graders: it is not a guarantee that you will win your students art work due to the nature of the Silent Auction, please be advised. It’s a fun night for all, so please mark your calendars now for this fun event!!
