Dear Parents:
The primary role of the school psychologist is to provide services to school personnel, parents, and students to promote achievement and social/emotional growth. Services include individual assessments, parent/teacher consultations, and counseling for students who are experiencing academic struggles or behavioral concerns.
Teachers or parents can request student evaluations. This may involve formal testing that reveals IQ; profiles of intellectual strengths and weaknesses; achievement levels; unique learning styles; factors that interfere with learning; and strategies for improving overall school performance. Prior parent permission would always be secured.
Individual and group counseling is available to all children. I am available to talk confidentially with any of the school children about concerns they may have. Forms are available in the school office for your child and classmates to request counseling. If your child requests to see me individually or with a group regularly, I may continue counseling but only after I have obtained written permission from you.
In addition to providing a direct service to children, I am available to talk with you to assist in the resolution of problems affecting your child. I can make referrals for those seeking outside services, such as, family counseling, tutors, and other specialists. I assist teachers with on-going concerns that they may have with students.
If you have questions or wish to talk with me, I can be reached by telephone at the school every Tuesday. Any other day you may leave a message with the school secretary, and I will return your call as soon as possible.
Sincerely,
Jane Varga School Psychologist |
